One of my all-time favorite places to spend time in Illinois is Garden of the gods in Shawnee Forest. I have lost track of the number of times that I have been there in my life but it is always a fun trip and has become a staple of our spring at Verhines Cottage as I have made a trip there with the boys in my care each of the last six years.
What set today’s trip apart from the rest of them is that this is the last one. In five more days, we pick up and move to Virginia. Today was probably the last time that I will spend walking on the trails that overlook some of the most beautiful scenery that Illinois has to offer.
I currently have three boys living in my care and one of them had never been there. I was also blessed to have two of my former residents, Justin and Michael, making the trip with us as well. My little boy, Caleb also went along to number our crew at seven.
The rundown of the day:
Stop #1: Wal-Mart for the essentials (lunchmeat, bread, chips & sodas)
Stop #2: Garden of the gods
Stop #3: Cave In Rock
Stop #4: Cave In Rock Ferry Boat
Stop #5: Marion, Kentucky (Elisa is obsessed with the soda called Ale-8-One and they only sell it in Kentucky.)
The remainder of this blog will be our day in pictures. Such a good time. I love these boys.
