One of the things that I love the most about working in a group home facility is getting to go on outings with the boys in our care. In the past seven years, I have been able to participate in camping trips, theme park trips, beach trips and a variety of other exciting trips that many people have to save for their days off. However, I get to do them as part of my job. This weekend was no different.
Liberty University has a standing policy of allowing our residents to attend their sporting events for free so this weekend, we took in a couple of games. We took residents from two of our cottages as well as some staff for a group of about 16 or 17 people. Liberty won both of the games in a couple of exciting and well-played contests. The men’s game came down to a last-second three-pointer.
Here are a few of the moments that we shared from the event.
One of the boys that live in my cottage was given a chance to win a gift certificate to a local restaurant if he could dribble downcourt and make a layup in under 6 seconds. He nailed it.
