Having spent the last decade of my life working with children, I have seen a fairly wide array of parenting styles (or lack of) that have been used on the children prior to their placement in my care. For the most part, and this is not always the fault of the parent, those styles and approaches have not carried the intended results and have required additional help in bringing the child along correctly.
For this reason, when I see parents being proactive in their parenting approach, it brings a smile to my face. I got the chance to sit down with a friend this past week and spent 2 full hours discussing his children and different approaches that he could take to keeping them moving along the life path that they needed to be on.
When I see (or am led to) resources online that a family can use in these regards, I want to be quick to highlight them. It is my sincere desire to help families connect the dots when it comes to bringing up their children and, while I do not always have the perfect solution, I like to take the time to find it.
I had a conversation with Sara Morris recently that has led me to one of these instances. Sara is the CEO of PopChart Family as well as a wife and mother of three children. She and her husband, Sam, have been developing a child development and behavior modification model that I feel like many of you would love to get a hold of.
While many people see electronics and social media as part of the problem when it comes to the behavior of their children, Sara and her husband have found a way to incorporate it into the solution. Popchart Family is a modern & fun behavior management game/app system for families with children. And, that is important to remember. While discipline and structure for our children are important, we have to remember to have fun with them as well. This provides a way to do both.
As you can see in the video, this amazing program is still in its infancy. As the Sara and Sam continue to develop the program, funding is necessary. Tomorrow (01/09/18) is the kick off of their funding campaign on Kickstarter. Join me in helping them with this funding project so that this resource can be made a reality.
Listen, parenting is an extremely difficult task. I have conversations on a regular basis with parents who are looking for something that connects them to their children and their children’s behavior. This could be that perfect tool for them. And, for that matter, it could be perfect for you as well.
Life is Strange. Live it Well.
