Everybody has a decent idea of what they are going to do tomorrow. That’s not too far down the road for life circumstances to change. Tomorrow is less than 24 hours away at this point. You can sort of pinpoint what it’s going to look like. It’s currently snowing outside which means that tomorrow, at least for this guy, will most likely be spent sitting inside and wishing for warmer days.
But, what about the day after that? Or the day after that? Or even the day that follows that one? What about next year? Or even five or ten years from now. The greater the span of time that you’re looking at, the more difficult it becomes to see where you will be. The reasons for that are obvious. Plans will change. New dreams will emerge. Old ideas will be put down. However, even with this in mind, it is good for a person to try to map this process out.
What should my future plans look like? What sort of life goals should I put before me? What should I consider when I am making a goal for my life? Well, for every person that reads this, there is a different answer because you are all so very different. However, for me, it is simple. The culmination of my life work needs to be done for the edification of Jesus Christ. Everything that I do should shine Christ on the world.
I have a goal of being a good husband but ultimately, I accomplish that by placing my marriage before Christ. I have a goal of being a good father and I accomplish that goal in the same manner. Because God has given me those tasks in His Word, I can pursue them by pursuing Him.
Beyond that, I have many other goals and plans. I want to be financially stable and also help others do the same. I want to help those who are struggling to balance out their family. I desire to help other people simplify their lives by encouraging them to put away the extra, less beneficial pursuits of their lives. Simplicity truly does bring happiness. All of these things, in my opinion, are pleasing to God. So, in order to create a roadmap for my life and how to live it successfully, I attempt to see my life through the lens of Christ.
I begin making those plans in accordance with what God has already stated is His will. This is the thing that I consider above all other things. In ancient Israel, the Jews would go nowhere without the Ark of the Covenant. It went before them during times of war and was always among them in the temple. God’s presence was a stable and constant reminder of what was of most importance.
It’s important to have a life goal. For that matter, it is important to have many goals and dreams. However, these goals should be anchored to and found channeling through Jesus Christ.
Life is Strange. Live it Well.
